Hope for 2017

As we turn the page on 2016 and all of its business, economic, social and political changes, as believers we can easily lose hope, myself included. However, I’m ever cognizant of the words found in Romans 15:13 (NIV) which say “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit” (emphasis mine)

In this verse, we learn that it is possible to OVERFLOW with HOPE by… the power of the Holy Spirit. Here at The Overflow, it is our heartfelt ambition to help you live a Spirit-filled life, and we believe Christian music plays a key role here.

Since The Overflow launched our subscription service in 2015, our lean team here at The Overflow has always believed that we will only succeed by God’s favor, as we seek to honor and glorify Him, and point people back to Jesus. We have always believed we are a “tiny David” with a slingshot, operating in a field of giants. Getting to where we are today has not been easy and has required much faith.

You, our valued customers have also shown us incredible faith by sticking with us, and we are grateful for that, and don’t take it for granted. As we transition into 2017, there are some big changes on our service that are important for me to share with you:

  • First the sad news – some content is being removed from our service for now. We have not yet reached mutually acceptable terms with Sony Music Entertainment, the owner of Provident Label Group (includes artists such as Casting Crowns, Kirk Franklin, Third Day and Tenth Avenue North). This is a sad day for me personally as with Christian music under immense pressure (including recent rounds of layoffs at Provident), it is our hope we can work with Provident and Sony to help the Christian music industry transition to the new streaming reality (more on my thoughts here will be in an upcoming blog). I have personally made some great friends at Provident and in the Provident artist community, and it’s my prayer we’ll get something figured out with their owners at Sony. Your prayers for God’s favor and your support are appreciated!
  • Now the GREAT news… I’m SUPER excited that some of my favorite bands are back on The Overflow. For King & Country (the most streamed artist on The Overflow in 2015) are BACK, along with Big Daddy Weave, Francesca Battistelli, Sidewalk Prophets, We Are Messengers and the entire Word Label Group roster.
  • Now for even better news! For the first-time ever, we will also be making available the CURB records catalog including… Natalie Grant, Plumb, Selah, OBB and more!

It is my fervent prayer that we as a community of believers would experience HOPE today, and each day through 2017 as we collectively make decisions to be filled with the source of Hope – the power of the Holy Spirit.

If you’re looking for an album to be the soundtrack of your first week of the year, I highly recommend listening to Let There Be Light from Hillsong Worship. It has been my “go to” for a few weeks and I’m sure you’ll be blessed by it (and there’s a devo coming for it soon!)

May God bless you and yours in 2017!

In His grip,

Stephen
