Christian Music Helps in Spiritual Growth
Just last week, Lifeway Research published a new study showing the Best Predictors of Spiritual Health Among Young Adults. The findings show just why a Christian music streaming service like The Overflow is needed, and why we work so hard to connect music to scripture.
The Research (full study findings here) showed that reading the bible is the biggest predictor of spiritual health of young adults. Given that God’s word doesn’t return to him empty but accomplishes the purpose for which it was sent (https://www.bible.com/bible/111/ISA.55.11).
The Type of music your kids (or you!) listen to are top predictors of spiritual health!
- A Top Positive Predictor: Child Listened Primarily to Christian Music
- A Top Negative Predictor: Child Listened Primarily to Secular/Popular Music
It would seem to me that these predictors are a common-sense application of Romans 12:2 https://www.bible.com/bible/111/ROM.12.2. Specifically, “…do not conform to the pattern of this world…” – secular music – but “…be transformed by the renewing of your mind…” – Christian music.
Here’s the reality: if your kids are on Spotify, Apple Music or another service, chances are they’re listening to very little Christian music, and likely a lot of secular music. What music do you listen to, and make available for your kids?
Now I know some of you are already saying, “but I don’t like Christian music”, or “I don’t like the music Christian radio plays”. Guess what? There is so much more to Christian music than what you hear on KLOVE and the FISH, or even Air1.
If you haven’t already, I’d encourage you (and your kids!) to try out The Overflow Christian music service today. We see Christian music differently than radio – while we offer programming options (playlists) for you, we have so much more. You can choose the song you want (including Worship and Hip Hop), create playlists, or even download music for offline listening.
In closing – will you start predicting a better spiritual health today by committing to bible reading, praying, regular church attendance and listening primarily to Christian music?
Try The Overflow today for you and your family!
